Butterfly Applique Quilt
The butterfly blocks were given to me. I put them together with the sashing and borders. I can't remember if it was quilted on my sewing machine or hand-tied. I think the blocks were quilted in the ditch, and each block was tied in the center. It was finished in 1980. I don't remember what became of this quilt, but I remember the butterflies began to come apart.
This baby quilt was made totally from t-shirt knit fabrics left over from making t-shirts after I took the Stretch & Sew Class. It was made in 1978.
This twin quilt was made for Michael. He arranged the colors. He must have been 8 or 10. I still have this quilt in my cedar chest.
I remember the first quilt I ever made. I had a trunk full of scraps left from years of making clothes for my dolls and myself. I was pregnant and stuck at home without a car most of the week. I designed a 3" block made of three 1" strips. I used a newspaper pattern and cut strips with scissors. I sewed 3 strips together to make the blocks, then sewed the blocks together, turning the blocks opposite, to make what I now know to be called a Rail Fence. At the time, I knew nothing about putting color values together, and I remember I didn't like the quilt. I don't recall how big it was or if it was ever finished, or what happened to it. Maybe it was used for J.R., or maybe it was given away. I wish I had taken a picture of it.
