NEW RAFFLE QUILT FOR GATLINBURG

Here is the raffle quilt for the Gatlinburg dance in May, 2012. Made from t-shirts donated by dancers from Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Queen size, about 90" x 90". Tickets may be had from Ace McGee, Ann Gurley or Matt Temples.

Working on 2 capes!

The first one is knitted with black Columbia Minerva Windspun crinkle yarn and size 11 needles. It's about 3/4 done. I will sew small black beads to each point around the bottom.

The second cape is crocheted using dark green Caron Simply Soft yarn and a size I crochet hook. It is also about 3/4 done and will have a small band around the collar.
Both will have a drawstring at the neck.

Quilt-As-You-Go method with "strings." This was fun. I learned a few things making this: like, don't use cheap poly fabrics, and measure instead of trying to "eye-ball". LOL!

Three young single moms just got saved and started coming to our church. I decided to make little quilts for all their kids and the other little ones in our church. These are about 36" x 45". Each set of three is made from 1 yard of 3 different prints. It's Anita Grossman Solomon's pattern. They are fast, easy and fun!! [Click on each image to see it larger.]

Working on a set of blocks called Christmas Present Blocks, designed by my friend Teresa Smallwood and her friend Pamela Floyd. This is a copywrited pattern.

On the design wall . . .

TUTORIAL:

(Click on any picture to make it larger)

Fabric #1 (giftwrap): cut 4 squares 6 1/2"

Fabric #2: (ribbon): cut 4 strips 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"

Fabric #3: (bow): cut 4 squares 2 1/2"

Fabric #4 (Inside of Bow): cut one square 2 1/2"

Sew 2 ribbon strips between the giftwrap squares. Press the seam allowance toward the center.

Make prairie Points from the 4 bow squares. Finger press only and pin.

Pin the prairie points to the 4 sides of the Inside Bow square:

Stitch the remaining 2 ribbon strips to either side of the bow block. Press the seam allowances outward.

Pin and stitch the ribbon/bow strip to the two giftwrap/ribbon segments. Press the seam allowances outward.

Finished Block should measure 14". (unfinished, 14 1/2")

Using the new Topper for circles and swirls

Binding Tip

When putting binding on the first side of your quilt, wind your binding strip around an empty thread cone and set it on your thread cone stand next to your machine!

The quilt in the above picture is the back of a new baby quilt I just finished. Here is the front side. I used my new "Topper" attachment on the longarm machine for the spiral and star patterns.

Cutting Table

This is the first piece of furniture to be set up in the new sewing room: a cutting table 72" wide, 12 feet long, and 35" high. Earl and our nephew Joe set it up today. Over 100 bolts! I will sand the top and refinish it to a smooth shine. The legs don't look straight in the picture, but they really are!

New Sewing Room Update

The painting is done, the lights are up, the switches and plug-ins work! The ceiling fan works, too! Next will be the floor - stained and sealed concrete in a color called English Saddle. The brown rectangle on the ceiling is a disappearing stairs going to the attic, where I'll be able to store some of my many totes of fabric!

"Stars in the Universe"

These star blocks were from an exchange I participated in back in 2005-2006. They were all slightly different in size so they've been in the closet until I discovered the Twist N Turn method to make them all the same size by adding long triangles to the sides. The quilting pattern is "Ebb and Flow" by Lorien Quilting. The batting is a 50/50 blend of cotton and corn fiber by EcoCraft. The size is 60" x 75". My mom says she wants this one! Double Knit Quilt !!!!!

First and last polyester double knit and single knit quilt, started in the 80's by my step-son's grandmother. I collected more double-knits, finished a few of the "flowers", quilted it on the longarm, and put the binding on it. The backing is also polyester double knit, and the batting is Hobbs Polydown Plus.

I made this "cuddle quilt" (34" x 49") for my grandaughter Kelsey. It's made of cotton knit squares with bright pink fleece on the back and no batting. Very soft!! Great to cuddle up in while watching TV or movies.

Smokey Mountain Retreat, square dance weekend featuring the calling of Ace McGee and Tim Marriner, and the cueing of Matthew Temples & Ramona Stowe. May 2010, the weekend before Memorial weekend. The quilt design is "Disappearing 9-Patch," and the quilting pattern is a traditional square dance design, as seen on the turned-back edge of the quilt. Colors featured in the quilt are black, white and deep red. The size of the quilt is 95" x 100," approximately a queen size. Fabrics in the quilt are 100% cotton, and the batting is PolyDownPlus. Quilt was pieced by Earl & Ann, and quilted and bound by Ann. Template for the square dance quilting design provided by Circle Lord. This quilt is machine washable, gentle cycle; line dry or machine dry on low setting. Click on the photo to see a close-up.
